Harriet Alexander Field

One of the many often unsung amenities Salida, CO has to offer is our local airport Harriet Alexander Field.  It not only is currently home to 37 local aircraft but also provides services for our hospital, our Division of Wildlife, our local Forestry Commission, as well as numerous other public uses. 

Harriet Alexander Field was named after the first ever councilwoman for Salida Mrs. Harriet Alexander.  She was a councilwoman from 1953 to 1963.  It was during this time that she found herself in the middle of the airport controversy and maintained that Salida needed an airfield while land for the site was available.  Construction started on the field in 1967 and Mrs. Alexander gave $1,000 of her own money making her one of the first contributors.  The airport terminal bearing her name was dedicated in 1964.  

Since then, the airport has been through several expansions and now boasts a runway 7348′ long and 75′ wide.  There are two courtesy cars available for pilots use as well as self and full service fuel services.  The airport terminal is open from 8:00am to 5:00pm, seven days a week, 365 days a year.   Plans for further expansion call for a 7.5 million dollar extension of taxi ways and possible hangar for transient traffic.  More details on services and fees can be found at http://www.chaffeecounty.org/Airport and https://cityofsalida.com/departments/harriet-alexander-field-airport/
