Fall in the Rockies

Salida, Colorado Colors
Salida, Colorado Colors

Although the official start of fall is still several days away, colors are showing up in the Rockies.  I was surprised at the view of fall foliage from Salida, Colorado.  I stopped at Highway 50 and looked up to Methodist Mountain.  The hillside is spotted with vibrant autumn leaves. The autumn season in Chaffee County brings an explosion of colors, including bright reds, yellows, and oranges. This photo is in the Marshall Pass area but could be in the ghost town of St. Elmo.  Aspen Ridge can be spectacular later in the season.  Prime time for viewing the leaves changing color typically falls between mid-September and early October, depending on the completely undependable Colorado weather.

In contrast, the sunflowers on the Upper Arkansas Valley floor are the last signs of summer.  The days are still warm and the nights have turned cool.  Fall in the Rockies is a favorite time of year.

The real estate market in Salida, Colorado is alive and thriving.  Our mild climate and sensational scenery attracts retirees and those adventure seekers.
